MUT – Tobalaba Urban Market

Mercado Urbano Tobalaba is one of the most relevant mixed-use real estate projects of recent times, with an area of more than 90,000 m^2. Developed by Territoria with an investment of over US$500 million, it is presented as a new meeting point in the city that will bring urban life to a place with a low environmental impact. It consists of 4 class A office towers, 8 levels of services and stores, and incorporates a market and cultural program, connected to the Tobalaba subway station and a bike hub with 2,000 bicycle parking spaces and a complementary program.

To carry out the project an interdisciplinary team was formed, led by Territoria, of which we have been a relevant part and where we have collaborated with international and local offices such as KPF Architecs, Handel Architects, Ray Chen, Jadue & Livingstone, Mobil and Sergio Echeverría, among others.

Since 2018 we have been actively participating in the integral development of the architecture, interior design and wayfinding project addressing different areas from its conceptual definition, experience design and formal design resolution.

In the last period we have focused on the design of the Market, the heart and soul of the project.

MUT rescues the old market concept and places it in a contemporary and urban world delivering a dynamic and colorful experience mixing the local with the latest trends. A space that pays tribute to culture through gastronomy. By highlighting the value of the products and the people behind them.

We have designed unique spaces that seek to bring together culture and entrepreneurship, strengthening the link with the community. A meeting space with meaning and purpose. A market where heritage coexists with innovation. A living platform that presents the Chile of today. Authentic, diverse and multicultural. The ‘Market’, proposes an organic story that develops in more than 20,000^m2, on three levels where different ecosystems that were carefully selected and designed from the conceptual, technical and interior design aspect, together with a curatorial, commercial and design team of Territoria will be staged.

Connected to the Metro, a dynamic place to do your daily shopping and business in the most pleasant way possible with an area of 6800^m2 + 100 stores and operators.

A tribute to local and international culture through fresh foods and products. A feast for the senses and the ideal place to enjoy in community. The Food Market presents a diversity of formats and seating to suit the different ecosystems proposed. Multiple scenographic elements will characterize each of them, generating a unique atmosphere, transporting visitors to different experiences.

These ecosystems are developed in an area of more than 7500^m2 and about 110 operators in different formats.

A whole world dedicated exclusively to bicycles, with 2,000 parking lots, lockers, showers, dressing rooms, specialized stores and cafeterias designed for cyclists. In an area of more than 1700^m2.

The development and participation in this project has been a great experience and learning in several aspects, it has opened doors and we have been able to bring a fresh and strategic vision crossing diverse knowledge, combining architecture and design in the broadest sense to turn our designs into real scenarios to improve people’s experiences.
